What is Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth?
Forbes estimates Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth at $208.6 billion on 3 November 2026. Roughly all of it is Meta stock, and he has sold comparatively little over two decades.
The dual-class structure gives him control of about 60 percent of voting power with a much smaller economic stake. That arrangement is why he can direct long-term spending on projects such as the metaverse and AI even when investors object.
Sources of wealth
| Source | Details | Approximate share |
|---|---|---|
| Meta | About 13 percent of shares outstanding, with a majority of voting power. | Over 95 percent |
| Property | Homes in Palo Alto, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and a large compound on Kauai. | Small |
| Other holdings | Private investments and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. | Small |
How the fortune was built
Zuckerberg wrote the first version of Facebook at Harvard in 2004, moved the company to Palo Alto that summer and dropped out of university. The site spread through universities first, then opened to the public, and reached a billion users by 2012, the year it went public.
He turned down a $1 billion acquisition offer from Yahoo in 2006 and a larger approach from Microsoft a year later. The decisions that defined the business came later: the purchase of Instagram in 2012, WhatsApp in 2014 and Oculus in 2014, and the shift to mobile advertising that turned a struggling public company into one of the most profitable in the world.
In 2021 he renamed the company Meta and committed it to building virtual and augmented reality products. The pivot cost tens of billions before it produced revenue. More recently the company has redirected capital toward AI infrastructure, including large data centres and an internal superintelligence research group.
Holdings and assets
Property is his most visible asset outside Meta: a house in Palo Alto, a compound in San Francisco, a lakefront estate at Tahoe and about 1,400 acres on Kauai in Hawaii. We value these from reported purchase prices rather than estimates of appreciation.
In 2015 he and Priscilla Chan pledged 99 percent of their Facebook shares to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative over their lifetimes. That pledge does not reduce the estimate today, because the shares have not been transferred.
How we estimate it
Meta’s proxy statement provides the share count; we apply the closing price on our valuation date. Private company investments are counted at cost unless a funding round has priced them.
