What is Jeff Bezos’s net worth?
Forbes puts Jeff Bezos at $366 billion on 3 November 2026. Unlike a founder who never sells, Bezos has been a consistent seller of Amazon stock for a decade, so a growing share of his wealth now sits in cash, funds and other companies.
The headline still rises and falls with Amazon’s share price, because his remaining holding is worth far more than everything else combined. Sales of stock reduce the number of shares but not the total value much, since the proceeds are reinvested or spent on ventures that we count separately.
Sources of wealth
The composition is simpler than most fortunes of this size: one enormous public holding and a set of smaller, private commitments.
| Source | Details | Approximate share |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Roughly 8 to 9 percent of the company as founder and executive chairman. | Large majority |
| Blue Origin | Space company founded in 2000, funded by annual share sales. | Meaningful but unlisted |
| Cash and investments | Proceeds from planned sales, held in diversified accounts. | Growing |
| The Washington Post | Owned personally since 2013. | Small relative to total |
How the fortune was built
Bezos studied electrical engineering and computer science at Princeton, then worked in hedge funds, ending up as a senior vice president at D. E. Shaw in New York. In 1994 he left, drove west and started Amazon in a rented house in Bellevue, Washington, with a plan to sell books online.
The company survived the dot-com crash, expanded into music, video and electronics, and then created Amazon Web Services in 2006. Cloud computing became the profit engine that paid for years of thin retail margins. Bezos stayed chief executive until July 2021, when he handed the role to Andy Jassy and became executive chairman.
He has since devoted more time to Blue Origin, which he founded in 2000 and which now flies commercial payloads and tourists to the edge of space. He also bought The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million, a purchase made personally rather than by Amazon.
Holdings and assets
Bezos owns homes in Miami, New York and Los Angeles, and the sailing yacht Koru, one of the largest support vessels ever built for a private owner. We count property and yachts only where a sale price or a credible valuation exists, and those assets are a rounding error next to the Amazon stake.
His philanthropy runs through the Bezos Day One Families Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund and the Courage and Civility Award, which gives unrestricted grants to individual recipients. Pledges are not deducted from the estimate; money leaves the total only when it is actually given away.
How we estimate it
The Amazon component uses the share count disclosed in the most recent proxy statement multiplied by the closing price on our valuation date. Cash and investment figures are estimates, because private accounts are not public. Blue Origin is valued conservatively: it has no public price, so we use the last funding round and apply a discount for illiquidity.
