What is Kim Jong-un’s net worth?

CelebrityNetWorth estimates his fortune at $5 billion in November 2026. This is an unverified outside estimate: North Korea publishes no declaration of its leader’s assets, no auditor has examined his finances, and no official figure exists to compare against the estimate.

The whole figure rests on a single investigative finding from 2013, which traced assets and accounts said to be controlled by him and his family. Nothing since then has confirmed or revised the number.

Sources of wealth

In March 2013 a joint South Korean and American investigation identified as much as $5 billion in assets and bank accounts controlled by Kim Jong-un and his family. The money sat in more than 200 foreign accounts in countries including Austria, Liechtenstein, Russia, Singapore, China, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

Reporting cited in the same account describes almost 20 palaces and mansions around North Korea, over 100 luxury cars, at least one private jet and a yacht more than 100 feet long. All of it comes from outside investigators rather than from any disclosure.

How the fortune was built

Kim was educated in Switzerland under a false name, then returned to study at Kim Il-sung University, taking degrees in physics and as an army officer before graduating in 2007. He was named heir in 2009 and made a four-star general in 2010.

When his father died in December 2011 he was declared supreme leader within days, and he became a marshal in 2012. The wealth attributed to him is a function of command over a state economy and its foreign currency channels, not of any company he founded or sold.

How we estimate it

We publish the CelebrityNetWorth figure of $5 billion dated 3 November 2026 and name the 2013 investigation as its origin. We do not add assumptions about assets that no source has described.

Readers should treat the number as an order of magnitude rather than a valuation. Sanctions, shell ownership and the absence of any North Korean financial reporting make an item by item audit impossible.
