What is Mohammed Al Amoudi’s net worth?

Net Worth Watch estimates the fortune at $8 billion in November 2026. Mohammed Al Amoudi built one of the largest private fortunes in both Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. He was detained in Saudi Arabia in 2017 and released the following year.

Most of the total sits in assets that are not priced daily, so the figure is a considered estimate rather than a bank balance. The profile below sets out each component and how firm it is.

Sources of wealth

The fortune divides into three main parts: oil refining, construction and agriculture.

  • Preem and refining Swedish refiner held through Corral Petroleum Holdings.
  • MIDROC group Cement, agriculture, mining and hotels in Ethiopia.
  • Saudi property and stakes Real estate and financial holdings in the kingdom.

How the fortune was built

Al Amoudi started in construction and moved into oil refining through Corral Petroleum Holdings, which owns the Swedish refiner Preem. He also invested in Ethiopian cement, agriculture and mining through the MIDROC group.

His wealth peaked around $13 billion before the 2017 anti-corruption detention in Riyadh, then fell as asset values and debts were reassessed. He remains among the largest private employers in Ethiopia.

Forbes began listing him as a billionaire in 2002 and has revised the figure downwards since 2017, which explains most of the swing in published estimates.

How we estimate it

We start from the best available record of what the person owns: company filings, stock exchange positions, property registers, investigative reporting and, for historical figures, reconstructions of the assets they controlled. Where a holding is private we compare it with listed peers, and where the record is thin we say so in the profile.

Figures are shown in US dollars and reviewed on the date at the top of the page. A net worth is not the same as annual income, and it can move sharply when markets or currencies move.
