What is Aga Khan IV’s net worth?

Net Worth Watch estimates the fortune at $1 billion in November 2026. Aga Khan IV inherited his position in 1957 and turned a religious role into a global development network. His personal wealth came from inherited assets, racing and tourism businesses.

Most of the total sits in assets that are not priced daily, so the figure is a considered estimate rather than a bank balance. The profile below sets out each component and how firm it is.

Sources of wealth

The fortune divides into three main parts: aga khan development network and inherited assets.

  • Inherited family assets Estates and holdings passed down through the Aga Khan line.
  • Racing and tourism Thoroughbred operations and hotel interests.
  • Network companies Commercial ventures tied to the development network.

How the fortune was built

He was a Harvard-educated student when he succeeded his grandfather in 1957. Over the following decades he built the Aga Khan Development Network, which runs hospitals, universities and microfinance operations across Asia and Africa.

His personal holdings included the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and a string of Studs, plus hotels such as the Cipriani in Venice through a family group. He died in 2025 and the estate passed to his son Rahim.

The network is a charitable structure, not personal property, so only the commercial and inherited assets count toward the estimate.

How we estimate it

We start from the best available record of what the person owns: company filings, stock exchange positions, property registers, investigative reporting and, for historical figures, reconstructions of the assets they controlled. Where a holding is private we compare it with listed peers, and where the record is thin we say so in the profile.

Figures are shown in US dollars and reviewed on the date at the top of the page. A net worth is not the same as annual income, and it can move sharply when markets or currencies move.
